Apologies for the lack of updates on here - technical issues! Andrew has been updating facebook regularly but I have been unable to pass the news on here.
A simmered down update: Andrew landed in Lisbon on September 10th, raced in front of the Vuelta (rules ban drafting), flown through Spain, smashed the Pyrenees, and has now passed Bordeaux and is now in La Rochelle. You can track him live via FollowMyChallenge So far, Andrew's body is coping well, his mind is doing OK - all messages of support help him on his way so shout out via the comment section below! His tyres, however, have had a very tough 8000km Finally a chance to update u all. Mixed start, first the bad stuff... Missed highway 1 DUH! only realised after 40k? Decided to press on, bad idea !After 233k made it to Priceton, camped n realised bivy bag, useless. Pehaps 2hours sleep, this on top of jetlag, hills brutal! Around 3000m climbing and mid 30s! Tough after Dunedin winter. Today also tough. This rerouting also mucked up my hosting, thanks Jennie for contacting them. Also phone won't work, traffic horrific due to wildfire detours, also wind. Good news.. 504 km in 2 1/4 days riding and feel ok. Living the dream, loving the scenery,.. sleep now, tomorrow to Revelstoke.
Andrew has flown from Auckland to Vancouver and has set off on his ride.
You can see the photos of him setting off from Auckland via facebook. Right now, Andrew has ridden for 2 days and 14 hours and has covered a huge distance of 426km already. You can track him on FollowMyChallenge and keep right up to date Great news people!!
Avanti Plus have come to the party with the most essential piece of equipment for success of this mission... the bike http://www.avantiplus.co.nz/products/av500a321/title/avanti-corsa-dr-2 So pleased to have such an awesome sponsor on board. I tried this bike today and it rides like a dream, I almost feel like I'm cheating. I would never take on such a challenge ill prepared but Avantiplus have now given me the confidence to know I have the right tool for the job at hand. You are supporting an awesome cause and providing me with the tool to get this job done! Thanks Avantiplus

Greetings all, this will be my first attempt at blogging.... I thought I'd start by hopefully adding a clip from my ride yesterday. 27 days to go and all on track, still lots to organise and still chasing sponsors for bits and pieces but the body is feeling ready and itching to get on new roads and away from the NZ winter. Has been quite tough to maintain the riding on the same old roads dealing with the wind, rain, ice, short days and even snow. Ill try to keep my clip postings brief and more scenery based (as opposed to clips of me ranting) but do check out 'the man who cycled the world' on you tube. Bear with me as I get my head around the tools needed to run this blog, attaching pics , clips and maps. I'm also getting my head around the all important spot tracker kindly discounted by http://www.mapworld.co.nz/ . Starting to get invites from the warmshowers cycle tourist hosting site which will hopefully make life more comfortable on the road. Very excited about this journey and happy to answer questions. Thanks Corran for being the first to comment.
